blanket stitch flower embroidery tutorial
blanket stitch flower
The blanket stitch flower is a classic method in flower embroidery. I have seen it many times in tablecloths embroidered by my own great-grandmother. It is a quickly made and doesn’t eat up a lot of thread. Also, you can easily vary the size of this kind of flower.
The blanket stitch oval
Use the blanket stitch to embroider the oval shape of this flower. I like to use very short “legs” for this purpose. This helps a lot when you go around the tighter curves of the oval.
The closer you set the stitches to another the denser your flower will look like. You can even set them so close that it covers the fabric completely. For a looser appearance, let some space between each stitch. Keep in mind that whatever you do, blanket stitch looks best if you evenly space it in this case. Choose your spacing and stick to it for the whole oval shape.
Straight stitch center
Now, it’s time for the scrambled stitches in the center. Add straight stitches for this purpose in a contrasting color.
