For all types of flowers with very tiny but many blossoms, this way of embroidery works like a charm. Elderflowers, Oregano, Yarrow, or Forget-me-nots are easily embroidered with French knots as shown in this tutorial.

Embroider the stem

Use the stem stitch to establish all green parts of your flower. You can use many other line stitches like the back stitch or chain stitch, too, but stem stitch rightfully deserves the name as it looks great for botanical embroidery pieces.

Adding the french knots

Now, add french knots in form of the shape you want. In this tutorial, I’m leaving quite a bit of space between each knot. Feel free to add more knots inbetween to create a more solid looking shape.

For some wildflowers more space inbetween like here is looking more natural than a cloud of all knots – which might look great for hydrangeas for example.
